Man convicted in Palomino Club doorman’s death gets life in prison
A Clark County jury spared a killer the death penalty Friday, deciding instead that Deangelo Carroll should receive a life term with parole eligibility after 40 years.
The same jury last week convicted Carroll, 29, of first-degree murder in the 2005 shooting death of 44-year-old Palomino Club doorman Timothy "T.J." Hadland. They also convicted him of conspiracy to commit murder.
Luis Hidalgo Jr., then-owner of the long-troubled, all-nude strip club , paid Carroll $6,000 to arrange for the shooting after Hadland reportedly spoke disparagingly of the club and Hidalgo to cabdrivers. The club lost money as a result.
Carroll recruited others to help with the killing, including Kenneth Counts, 34, who was acquitted of first-degree murder but was convicted of conspiracy to commit murder. He is serving an eight- to 20-year sentence.
Hidalgo and his son, Luis Hidalgo III, were convicted of second-degree murder in 2009 and are serving sentences of 20 years to life.
