Man convicted in shooting death of Tibetan monk

The man on trial in the shooting death of a former Tibetan monk in 2000 was found guilty of second-degree murder with a deadly weapon today.

A District Court jury found Justin Porter, 26, guilty of killing 31-year-old Gyaltso Lungtok. But the jury acquitted Porter on charges of burglary while in possession of a firearm and attempted robbery with a deadly weapon.

Porter, who was 17 at the time of the slaying, was accused of going on a major crime spree in Las Vegas in 2000 that included the slaying of Lungtok.

Authorities also accused Porter of sexually assaulting four women. He is set to go to trial on the other charges at a later date.
