Man crashes SUV onto car, then dies

A Las Vegas man was killed Sunday night when his vehicle slammed into a palm tree on Charleston Boulevard in what appeared to be a alcohol-related crash, Las Vegas police said.

Lonnie Bryant Mitchell, 35, died at University Medical Center after the 10:40 p.m. crash near the intersection of Campbell Drive, east of Valley View Boulevard.

Mitchell's 2002 Kia Sportage was speeding west in the center turn lane when it hit the tree in a median, spun and landed on the hood of a 2004 Infiniti traveling west, police said.

The driver of the Infiniti, Donald Echols, 25, of Las Vegas, was unhurt.
