Man crushed by his SUV was Las Vegan

The man who was crushed after his sport utility vehicle rolled over him on Thursday has been identified as 63-year-old James Byron Meier of Las Vegas.

Meier had pulled up to his driveway at 9900 Shadowgate Court, near Tropicana Avenue and Hualapai Way, about 5:30 p.m., Las Vegas police said.

He got out of his 2001 Chevrolet Blazer and began to inspect the undercarriage. Police said it appeared the vehicle was in neutral and began rolling toward the street.

Meier was dragged and crushed, with the left front tire coming to rest on top of him, according to police. The Clark County coroner's office said he died of traumatic asphyxia.
