Man dies after fire in his home

A 54-year-old man died Wednesday after being pulled out of his double-wide manufactured home, which caught fire at a mobile home park.

The man, whose identity was not available, was pulled out of the trailer at the Valley Vista All Age Mobile Home Community, 3001 Cabana Drive, said Scott Allison, a spokesman for the Clark County Fire Department. Allison said the man was taken to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Allison said the cause of the fire, which started about 1 p.m., had not been determined but cigarettes and a lighter fell out of the man's pocket when he was pulled from the blaze. Allison said the man used an oxygen tank to breathe.

The mobile home park is near Vegas Drive and Nellis Boulevard.

Allison said the man called 911 for medical assistance 19 minutes prior to when firefighters were called to the same address to battle the blaze. When firefighters first arrived at his home, they found the man on his porch smoking a cigarette. It appeared the man had just been released from the hospital because he was wearing a hospital bracelet on his wrist and had heart monitor pads on his chest, Allison said.

The man asked firefighters who responded to adjust his walker. Firefighters then left the scene before being called back.

Although the man placed two calls to 911 in fewer than 20 minutes, no foul play is suspected, Allison said.

The sights, the sounds, the stories of the survivors and the dead in Be’eri are etched into me to this day. An entire community fought for its life, while I, in its midst, tried to gather the fragments.

This is my October 7

A convoy of colorful cars on the way to paradise. Costumes, fairies, love on the dance floors. Then, with the sunrise, the dream turned into a nightmare.

Somehow, we survived

The morning of October 7 began with deafening explosions. We understood immediately: this was war.
