Man dies in accident at Lake Mead
A Las Vegas man, 44, died Sunday night at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
The man, whose name was withheld, is believed to have drowned near the Boulder Beach area, said Roxanne Dey, spokeswoman for Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
Witnesses said the man was launching a Sea-Doo personal watercraft from the Special Events Beach when the craft became disabled, she said. The man was in the water trying to fix the problem when witnesses saw him go under the surface, Dey said.
Witnesses called 911 about 6:30 p.m., and the man's body was recovered about an hour later in 15 feet of water about 100 yards from the shoreline, Dey said.
He wasn't wearing a life-jacket, she said.
The man is the 11th person to die at Lake Mead this year, but if he did drown, his death would be the first confirmed drowning of the year.
There have been four deaths by natural causes, three deaths due to vehicle accidents, two deaths in which the causes remain undetermined and one suicide, Dey said.
