Man dies in Saturday pickup crash near Searchlight

A 54-year-old man died Saturday after his pickup rolled over near Searchlight, Las Vegas police said Sunday.

His identity was not released.

Police said the crash occurred at 5:52 p.m. on Cottonwood Cove Drive, three miles east of Searchlight, a town about 60 miles south of Las Vegas.

Police said the man was driving a 2009 Dodge Ram east on Cottonwood Cove when he came upon a curve at a high rate of speed and lost control. The truck slid sideways before rolling over. The driver, who was thrown from the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident marked the 20th traffic fatality in 2012 under the jurisdiction of Las Vegas police.
