Man dies in shooting at valley park
July 27, 2009 - 9:00 pm
An unidentified man died early Sunday after being shot in a park in the northwest valley in what authorities suspect was a robbery attempt, Las Vegas police said.
Homicide Lt. Lew Roberts said the man was in his late 30s.
At 12:25 a.m., police discovered the victim with multiple gunshot wounds at a park on West Durcharme Avenue, near Buffalo and Alta drives. The man was taken to University Medical Center where he died a short time later.
Police said witnesses saw two juvenile suspects flee the scene shortly after shots were fired.
The first suspect was described as 5 feet 6 inches tall, heavyset and wearing a red sweatshirt and baggy jeans. The second suspect was described as just over 5 feet tall and wearing a white T-shirt and baggy jeans.
Witnesses said they saw the suspects run north through the park and enter a newer model silver car.
Roberts said that shortly before the shooting, two suspects matching the description of the shooting suspects committed a robbery at the park.
Roberts said the suspects didn't manage to steal anything from the man who was fatally shot. Roberts said the man didn't have money on him.
"He got killed for nothing," Roberts said.
Anyone with information on the slaying is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555 or the Homicide Section at 828-3521.
