Man found guilty of killing, robbing his live-in girlfriend
A 59-year-old man accused of killing his live-in girlfriend was found guilty of first-degree murder and robbery Monday.
A jury convicted Vincent DiBerardino of first-degree murder with a deadly weapon and robbery with a deadly weapon for killing Stephanie Zweig, 57.
Zweig was found bludgeoned in her home near Warm Springs Road and Eastern Avenue in June 2006. Her Mercedez-Benz was missing and Las Vegas police at the time suspected DiBerardino's involvement.
Thomas Reale, 56, Zweig's brother, said he was elated that a jury found DiBerardino guilty in his sister's slaying. Reale said the week-long trial was hard for his family to endure, but Monday's verdict made it worth it.
Reale couldn't even bring himself to say DiBerardino's name during a phone interview.
"He has no name to me," Reale said. "Although we will never forgive the murderer, we got a little closure knowing the state did a fabulous, fabulous job proving his guilt."
Reale, of Anaheim Hills, Calif., said his family will return in mid-September for DiBerardino's sentencing.
