Man gets 25 years for Storey County killing
VIRGINIA CITY -- A man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the October 2009 beating death of a woman in Storey County.
The Nevada Appeal reported that the sentence was imposed Friday on 24-year-old Ryan Bonnett, who will be eligible for parole after 10 years.
Bonnett earlier pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of 47-year-old Eileen Pruitt.
Authorities said Pruitt left her Lockwood home to walk a dog and was asked a short time later by an intoxicated Bonnett, "Hey, man, you got a cigarette?"
Bonnett's girlfriend testified that Pruitt seemed angry to be referred to as "man," and Pruitt and Bonnett then cursed at each other.
Pruitt swung at Bonnett after he kicked the dog, and he then attacked and beat her.
Bonnett apologized for the killing.
