A Sandy Valley man was indicted by a grand jury on charges he shot and killed his 50-year-old cousin in December.
Kenny Ray Turner, 59, is charged with murder with a deadly weapon and being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm .
Turner called Las Vegas police at 12:05 a.m. and said he had shot his cousin, Byron Richards, after Richards attempted to break into his home, according to his arrest report.
Richards, who had a criminal history in Idaho, had been living with Turner and his wife for a month at the time of the incident.
Prosecutors said the shooting happened after Richards came home from a bar. Turner, while brandishing a handgun, told his cousin he was no longer welcome, resulting in the confrontation, the report stated.
Turner told police Richards had pushed him and the gun went off once. Prosecutors said evidence presented to the grand jury shows the gun was fired twice.
Turner is a felon for a 1990 charge of possession of a controlled substance.
Judge Linda Bell set bail for Turner at $300,000. He is being held at the Clark County Detention Center.
