Man interviewed in robbery, death of teacher

Las Vegas police late Friday interviewed a man sought as a "person of interest" in this week's robbery and death of Eldorado High School teacher Timothy VanDerbosch, but then determined that he was not involved in the killing.

Investigators on Friday had released ATM and store security camera photos of the man and his truck, seeking the public's help in identifying and locating him.

Several hours later he was interviewed by detectives who learned that while the man found and used VanDerbosch's ATM and credit cards, he was not involved in the robbery and killing.

Police said they expect to seek charges against the man, whose name was not released, in relation to his use of the victim's cards, however.

Police were seeking at least three suspects in VanDerbosch's death. They are described as Hispanic men and one Hispanic woman, who are between the ages of 18 and 30.

VanDerbosch, 50, was attacked and beaten about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday near Washington Avenue and Betty Lane as he walked to the campus. Investigators believe he was running from his attackers when he was accidentally hit by a car. The driver of the car will not be charged.

VanDerbosch was one of several victims in an early morning crime spree by the group, which targeted seven to 10 people in a string of violent robberies in the northeast valley.

Authorities are seeking the owner or driver of a white compact car, possibly a 1998-2000 Nissan Maxima.
