Man killed in crash on Sahara Avenue

A traffic collision Saturday on Sahara Avenue near Walnut Road left one man dead and another in jail facing felony charges of driving under the influence involving a death, Las Vegas police said.

Authorities withheld the name of the 33-year-old Las Vegas man killed in the accident. Police said he was a passenger in a 1995 Honda Civic that 37-year-old Jose Palacio was driving east on Sahara about 5:30 p.m.

Palacio, who was driving with a revoked license, lost control of the Honda, police said. It slid into oncoming westbound traffic where the Civic slammed into a 1999 Dodge Durango driven by 42-year-old Debra Mason, police said.

Palacio's passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Mason and Palacio were treated for injuries at local hospitals.

Authorities booked Palacio into the county jail after his release from the hospital.
