Man punished for having child pornography

A Henderson man with a prior conviction for sexually assaulting a teenage boy must spend an additional 17 years in prison for receiving child pornography.

According to a statement from the U.S. attorney's office, Henderson police found 512 images and 22 videos of child pornography on computers and compact discs when they searched Mark Chanley's home in May 2007.

Much of the pornography was produced in Russia.

Chanley, 51, was convicted of receiving child pornography after a bench trial earlier this year before Senior U.S. District Judge Lloyd George.

George sentenced Chanley on Tuesday to 210 months in prison. The defendant faced a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years because of his prior conviction in Colorado for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy.

According to the statement from U.S. attorney's office, a correctional facility employee in Colorado contacted a Henderson police detective in March 2007 and told the detective that an inmate at the facility was receiving letters from Marco Donaonelli Cianciulli, an alias used by Chanley, in Henderson.

Chanley was released from the same facility two months earlier. His letters included pictures of young boys and descriptions of his attempts to approach children.

The FBI and Henderson police conducted the investigation. The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Justice Department in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
