Man shot by officer charged

The man shot by Las Vegas police officers after they say he threatened them with a screwdriver Saturday has been identified as Sasa Pudar and charged.

The 37-year-old was shot by an officer around 5:15 p.m. Saturday at a residence in the 4800 block of South Torrey Pines Drive, north of Tropicana Avenue. Police responded to the Las Verdes condominiums on a report of a suicidal man who was taking pills.

When officers arrived, they saw Pudar standing in the doorway, bloody and holding a large screwdriver. Pudar then rushed from the door of the home toward officers standing on the porch and lunged at them. One of the officers fired a shot.

Pudar was struck and injured. He was taken to University Medical Center for his injuries. Information on his condition was not available Sunday afternoon.

The man was booked in absentia into the Clark County Detention Center on a charge of attempted murder on a public officer with a deadly weapon.

The name of the involved officer has not yet been released.
