Man shot by Washoe County sheriff’s deputy hospitalized

RENO -- A man shot by a Washoe County sheriff's deputy remains in critical condition at Reno's Renown Regional Medical Center, the Reno Gazette-Journal reports.

Reno Police Lt. William Rulla said the deputy was performing a routine patrol about 3:45 p.m. when the shooting occurred near the Gold Ranch Casino & RV Resort along U.S. Interstate 80 near the California line.

Rulla said the names of the man and the deputy are being withheld by police.

The deputy, who was not harmed, has placed on routine paid administrative leave.

The investigation will be submitted to the District Attorney's Office to decide whether the shooting was justified.
