Man sought in slaying arrested

A 47-year-old man wanted in connection with a Nye County slaying was arrested Thursday at a downtown Las Vegas hotel room, Las Vegas police said.

Jeffrey Ortwien Schilling was taken into custody by members of the Criminal Apprehension Team, or CAT, a federal task force comprised of investigators from law enforcement entities including the Metropolitan Police Department, Henderson police and the FBI.

His bail was set at $1 million, police said.

Schilling was wanted in connection with the death of his girlfriend Denise Adams. Authorities said Adams was slain Sunday at her home in Nye County.

Las Vegas police received a tip that Schilling had checked into a hotel Thursday. When police knocked on his door, Schilling answered and was taken into custody without incident.
