Man who died after fight with roommate ID’d

A man killed during an altercation with his roommate on April 6 has been identified as 47-year-old Edwin Rodriguez of Las Vegas.

Las Vegas police arrested 31-year-old Juan Apariciaparra in connection with the slaying and charged him with one count each of murder with a deadly weapon, battery on a police officer with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest with a deadly weapon.

Police say Apariciaparra walked in on a sexual encounter involving an ex-girlfriend and Rodriguez.

Officers first noticed Apariciaparra holding a jacket up to his neck as he walked near the intersection of Fredrika Drive and Palo Verde Street, near Flamingo and Paradise roads, at 4:42 a.m. April 6.

Apariciaparra told the officers that he had just killed his roommate and started to run, police said. When officers tried to detain him, Apariciaparra took out a box cutter and tried to cut his own throat, police said.

Officers struggled with him, eventually getting control of him with the help of a Taser.

Police later found Rodriguez's body in the apartment.
