Marshal wounded during courthouse shooting identified

The deputy U.S. marshal who was shot in the arm during Monday's gun battle at the Lloyd George U.S. Courthouse is Joe Gardner, sources said.

U.S. Marshal Gary Orton said Gardner, 48, has been employed by the U.S. Marshals Service for 24 years. Orton said Gardner has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home.

Gardner was shot by Johnny Lee Wicks, who opened fire in the federal courthouse Monday morning. Wicks, 66, and court security officer Stan Cooper, 72, were killed during the shootout.
