Gustav and Denise Mauler and the Fertitta Family Foundation were recognized Thursday as the Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada’s 2013 Heart of Hope Award winners.
The awards were presented at a luncheon in the Bellagio’s Grand Ballroom. They recognize individuals and organizations that support efforts to “restore hope to our community.”
The Maulers were cited for hosting five annual Spiedini Wine and Cheese Fundraisers in support of Catholic Charities.
Denise Mauler served on the charity’s board and is its immediate past president.
Upon receiving the award, master chef Gustav Mauler reflected that while he has prepared meals and served presidents and many other dignitaries, “there is nothing more humbling and meaningful than serving a meal to the hungry in our community. And that’s what Catholic Charities is all about.”
The Fertitta Family Foundation has been an integral part of this community for generations, operating from a philosophy of giving back to the community and assisting those in need.
Among other charitable events, the foundation sponsors two annual meals through Catholic Charities that feed thousands of needy people.
Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada is one of the state’s largest nonprofit social service providers, offering more than 20 diverse services designed to help people of all ages.
