Mayor pressures developers to revive empty Lady Luck
Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman turned up the heat on CIM Group, the Hollywood, Calif.,-based developers who promised to revive the empty Lady Luck casino-hotel downtown.
"The Lady Luck is a disaster," Goodman said. He called the shell of a building at the corner of Fourth Street and Stewart Avenue a "carcass."
Goodman told city staff to check out the property for code violations, meaning the owners could face fines, civil penalties and a lien on the property if violations aren't fixed.
CIM made a deal last year with the city. The developer agreed to start a $100 million renovation project by the end of this year in exchange for the right to buy land around the adjacent mob museum, which is under development.
City officials and nearby businesses are getting impatient with CIM, saying the company should remove the skeletal structure Goodman called a carcass and do a better job keeping the area around the property free of trash and debris.
