Mayor target of recall effort

CARSON CITY -- Carson City Mayor Marv Teixeira has become the target of a recall petition following his guilty plea to a first offense charge of driving under the influence.
Resident Rheba Montrose filed the petition April 19. She has 90 days to collect 5,529 signatures, or 25 percent of the total votes cast in the mayor's race three years ago.
Montrose's action came a week after the 72-year-old mayor was sentenced to 46 hours of community service and hit with at least $850 in fines and fees.
"He didn't apologize to us, the people who elected him. I think he should resign because he committed a crime and was convicted," she told the Nevada Appeal. Teixeira was out of town and did not return calls to his cell phone.
