Medical practice accused of fraud
A Las Vegas medical practice is accused of defrauding two federal agencies by performing thousands of unnecessary cholesterol tests on patients.
The U.S. attorney's office filed a lawsuit Monday against Miller Medical Group Chtd., which operates under the name Internal Medicine Associates.
The lawsuit says the medical practice violated the False Claims Act more than 15,000 times between January 2003 and December 2006. The lawsuit says Miller Medical Group conducted tests when it instead could have used a mathematical calculation.
The lawsuit asks that Miller Medical Group be required to pay three times the amount it received from Medicare and other federal funds.
