Metro seeks public’s help in double-homicide case
August 20, 2015 - 5:40 pm
Las Vegas police are asking for the public's help with a double homicide that occurred in the east valley earlier this month.
Metro released photographs of a red two-door hatchback Thursday afternoon with a request for information about anyone seen driving or riding in the car in the area of East Lake Mead Boulevard near North Pecos Road on the day of, or days prior to, the Aug. 11 shooting.
The homicide likely occurred about 17 miles from that location. Metro found the bodies of Villafana Luis Ibarria, 30, and Fernando Omar Avila-Estrada, 31, on the ground before sunrise. One body was next to a late 1990s model Honda with both doors wide open in the back parking lot of the Hamptons Apartments complex, 3707 S. Nellis Blvd., police said. This is the same car Metro is asking about, police said.
The other body was several yards away from the car and the man appeared to have been shot while running away. Avila-Estrada died from a gunshot wound to the neck. Ibarria died from multiple gunshot wounds, the coroner's office said. Both men were unarmed.
Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact the Metro's Homicide Section at 702-828-3521 or homicide@lvmpd.com.
