MGM executive up for education honor

Jim Murren, the chairman and executive officer of MGM Resorts International and guiding force behind CityCenter, will be honored with the Education Hero Award from the Public Education Foundation at a banquet at the Mandarin Oriental on Sept. 25.

Clark County School District Superintendent Walt Rulffes and former Clark County Commissioner Myrna Williams also will receive Lifetime Education Achievement Awards. Rulffes, district superintendent for the past five years, has announced his intention to retire as soon as his successor is announced.

Williams served more 20 years in elected office and was a Nevada assemblywoman as well as a county commissioner.

The banquet is an annual fundraiser for the foundation, which raises money for public education in Clark County.
