MGM Mirage disavows sweepstakes letters

Casino operator MGM Mirage Inc. says residents of Nevada, California, Texas and other states are complaining that someone has mailed them fraudulent checks with the company's logo on them as part of a scam.

MGM Mirage says recipients of the letters also get a letter telling them they have won a sweepstakes.

The letter tells recipients to deposit the check and pay a fee to cover administrative costs.

MGM Mirage says the checks and letters are counterfeit and are not associated with the Las Vegas-based casino company.
