Nevada National Guard back in Reno after Afghanistan tour

RENO - Ninety members of Nevada's National Guard returned to Reno amid cheers and patriotic songs after a deployment in Afghanistan.

The returning members were part of the 485th Military Police Company that provided security to about 2,400 detainees at a facility in Parwan province.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reported that some of the National Guard members who returned Wednesday night had been deployed for as long as 10 months.

National Guard spokesman Maj. April Conway said the return of a National Guard unit can prompt a larger response than an Army unit because the National Guard members are returning to their actual homes.
