Titus introduces bill to fix appeals process for veterans

WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Dina Titus, D-Nev., said Friday she has introduced a comprehensive bill to fix a broken appeals process for veterans.

“As ranking member of the Veterans Affairs subcommittee overseeing disability benefits, I have been fighting for more than three years to reform the VA’s broken appeals process,” Titus said. “I warned a tsunami was coming, but Congress and the VA continued to dawdle. Now it’s time for significant action.”

Titus said veterans now wait an average of four years to complete the Department of Veterans Affairs appeals process.

She said her proposal would give veterans multiple options to address claims. Veterans will be able to have claims reviewed for accuracy, file new evidence and opt for a complete review by the Board of Veterans Appeals.

She said her measure has drawn support from several veterans organizations.
