More rain for valley tonight, more snow in mountains
An overnight storm expected to move into the Las Vegas Valley from the west tonight could bring record rainfall and dump 8 to 16 inches of snow on surrounding mountains, the National Weather Service said.
The storm, which should weaken Sunday morning and move out of the valley by midday, was expected to bring between a quarter- and half-inch of rain. The record rainfall for Dec. 12, set in 1940, is .3 inches, said meteorologist Clay Morgan. The record for Dec. 13 is .11 inches, set in 1971.
“It’s likely we’ll catch one or the other” record, Morgan said.
Temperatures could get as high as 61 degrees Sunday. Clouds should clear out of the valley by Monday, bringing mostly sunny skies and a high of 55.
