Mother charged with neglect in son’s beating death

The mother of an 18-month-old toddler who was beaten to death Monday has been arrested and charged with neglect causing substantial bodily harm, and her boyfriend, who is not in custody, has been charged with murder.

Lolita Boyd-Marshall, 31, 4009 Broadriver Dr., was reportedly not at home when the fatal injuries were inflicted, and police continue to search for Clyde Biggs, 30, who is wanted on a charge of murder by child abuse.

The oldest of the women's five surviving children told Las Vegas police that Biggs had been whipping the toddler, Larry Boyd. The mother was arrested after it was determined she was aware Biggs was physical with the children.

An autopsy conducted Tuesday revealed the child had a collapsed lung, contusions on both lungs, a torn right adrenal gland, massive laceration of the liver, right kidney hemorrhage and excessive bruising on the face, ear, chest, abdomen, right arm and left foot "all consistent with non-accidental trauma."

The boy, 10, told police he had witnessed Biggs use a belt on Larry Boyd and other siblings in the past. He said he heard Biggs whip Boyd the day he died and believed Biggs had covered the boy's mouth to stifle his yelling.

He also told police of previous beatings administered by Biggs and ignored by his mother.

"(The boy) stated he had attempted to tell his mom about (previous incidents), but she was too busy because she has a lot of kids," he told police, adding she was "too busy to pay attention to what was going on."

Police said Biggs might be driving an unregistered white 1991 560 SCC Mercedes two-door coupe.
