Motorcyclist dies after car hits him

A 51-year-old motorcyclist died Wednesday afternoon after he was struck by a vehicle on Rainbow Boulevard near Sahara Avenue, Las Vegas police said.

The Las Vegas man, whose name was withheld by police, was southbound in the far left lane of Rainbow about 12:25 p.m. on a 2004 Harley-Davidson when 37-year-old Norma Gonzalez drove a 1999 Toyota Camry from a driveway across all three lanes of southbound Rainbow in an attempt to get into the left turn lane. Gonzalez hit the right side of the motorcycle, police said.

The motorcyclist lost control of his bike and slid into the back of a 2008 Ford F-250 pickup truck driven by 33-year-old Kasie Gallardo, police said.

He was taken to University Medical Center but died upon arrival. Gonzales, Gallardo and a 5-year-old child in Gallardo's truck were not injured.

Police said failure to yield the right-of-way caused the crash.
