Motorcyclist dies after collision with school bus

A 58-year-old motorcyclist was killed when a school bus pulled in front of him Monday afternoon.

Las Vegas police said the unidentified man was riding a 2006 Kawasaki Vulcan west on Sahara Avenue approaching Atlantic Street, near Eastern Avenue.

A Clark County School District bus driven by 44-year-old Miguel Quijano was headed east on Sahara, according to police. Quijano made a left turn onto Atlantic on a permissive green light a 1:39 p.m., just as the motorcyclist entered the intersection on a green light.

The motorcyclist locked the brakes on the bike, which fell to its side. The motorcycle and the man slid into the bus, police said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Quijano was not injured. Police said the investigation is ongoing.

The accident closed the intersection for several hours, forcing parents at Knudson Middle School to pick up their children in a nearby Department of Motor Vehicles parking lot.
