Motorcyclist dies in Las Vegas accident

A motorcyclist died after losing control of his Harley-Davidson and crashing into a signpost this afternoon.

Nevada Highway Patrol trooper Kevin Honea said the man, who was in his 30s, was traveling north on Interstate 15 when he took the offramp to eastbound St. Rose Parkway.

Witnesses said the man was driving at a high rate of speed, and the motorcycle veered off the offramp and into a gravel area about 2 p.m., Honea said. He hit a signpost and was thrown from the motorcycle into the westbound lanes of St. Rose.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was not released.

Honea said the man did have a helmet on, although it did not cover his face.
