Motorcyclist killed after hitting light pole
A 24-year-old motorcyclist died early today when he lost control of his 1999 Yamaha R6 and struck a light pole and brick wall near Oakey Boulevard and Westwind Road.
Investigators said the Las Vegas man was traveling westbound around 12:39 a.m. on Oakey Boulevard at a high rate of speed when the accident occurred.
Witnesses say he lost control of his motorcycle and struck a street light pole, breaking it off its base, and a brick wall. He was thrown from the bike and pronounced dead at the scene.
The man's death is the 50th traffic fatal of the year and the fifth motorcycle fatality in a week.
