Mount Potosi wildfire now under control

Calmer winds helped firefighters bring a 100-acre blaze on Mount Potosi under control early Thursday.

The wildfire that had closed a portion of state Route 160 for hours on Wednesday was 90 percent contained by 8:30 a.m. Thursday. The exact cause of the fire is still unknown.

However, Kirsten Cannon, spokeswoman for the Bureau of Land Management said the blaze "is absolutely human caused."

The wildfire risk has prompted the U.S. Forest Service to impose fire restrictions.

Visitors cannot build or use fires for camping or cooking, except with a portable stove that's fueled by gas, jellied petroleum or pressurized liquid fuel. They also can't smoke, except within an enclosed vehicle.
