Mountain lion search called off

RENO -- Nevada wildlife officials on Friday called off a search for a mountain lion that attacked a woman and her dog in the mountains southeast of Reno. The incident was only the second such attack in the state on record.

Nevada Department of Wildlife spokesman Chris Healy said the search was called off because of a winter storm and it won't resume unless a similar attack occurs.

Wildlife officials believe the animal headed into a remote section of the Virginia Range away from a rural residential area where the attack occurred Wednesday night.

The woman suffered minor injuries when she tried to break up a fight between the cat and her dog in her backyard.
