MSN made over
For the first time in 10 years, MSN.com’s home page has a new look. The makeover, which debuted Tuesday, includes several new features, including:
— TrendWatch: Highlights of the top trends of the day and hot topics on Twitter.
— Social network integration: Quick, in-line access to Facebook, Twitter and Windows Live. This feature lets people interact on the sites in one place, without leaving the MSN.com site.
— Bing integration: Microsoft Corp.’s search engine is woven into the page in many ways, with a tilt toward local items. Popular searches and shopping sites are also featured.
Microsoft also updated MSN Local Edition, the company’s portal to local information for the Web site user. The content is tailored based on more than 42,000 ZIP codes. Some of the local features include:
— Hyperlocal tweets: This uses Bing to highlight the 140-character-or-fewer messages from your locale.
— My Cities: A personalized edition that lets users save up to three cities.
— Video: Featuring news and information from local NBC affiliates and Hearst Television.
