Police kill man armed with knife, find mother stabbed to death

Police in Weymouth, Massachusetts, shot and killed a man armed with a knife early Monday morning, then found the man’s mother stabbed to death.

The police were called about 1 a.m. to the house south of Boston. They were confronted by Paul Campbell, 49, the Norfolk district attorney’s office said.

Two officers opened fire on Campbell. He died after being taken to South Shore Hospital.

The body of Campbell’s mother, 72-year-old Patricia Campbell, was found on the front steps of the home she shared with her son. She had been stabbed to death.

Fox 25 reported that Paul Campbell is the father of Boston Mayor Marty Walsh’s girlfriend’s daughter.

Officials said both officers have been on the force for about 10 years.
