Needles crash kills three generations of one family

NEEDLES, Calif. -- Members of three generations of the same family died together Monday in a single-vehicle traffic accident in Needles, Calif., about 90 miles southeast of Las Vegas.

San Bernardino County Sheriff's Sgt. Tim Smith said investigators were trying to determine why the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it left River Road and hit a large rock and several trees at 6:40 p.m.

Dead at the scene were the driver, Pete Rodriguez III, 52, his son, Pete Rodriguez IV, 30, and his grandson, Pete Rodriguez V, 10, all of Needles.
