Neighboring houses on valley’s east side catch fire

Neighboring houses caught fire on the valley's east side Tuesday afternoon causing $500,000 worth of damage, the Las Vegas Fire Department said.

Firefighters were called to 429 Galveston St., near Stewart Avenue and Sandhill Road, about 4 p.m.

The fire started in the backyard of the home and high winds spread the blaze north to the house at 433 Galveston St., Las Vegas fire officials said.

It was unknown what caused the blaze. Nobody was injured.

Several air compressor tanks in the backyard of one of the homes exploded during the fire, Las Vegas fire officials said. The explosions didn't necessarily cause the blaze, officials said.
