Nellis airman ID’d as victim of fatal motorcycle crash

Authorities say a 23-year-old motorcyclist killed in a Las Vegas-area freeway crash was a U.S. Air Force service member stationed at Nellis Air Force Base who lived in North Las Vegas.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, Derek Weston Moore crashed his 2003 Suzuki motorcycle a little after 3 a.m. Monday on northern Las Vegas Beltway west of Pecos Road.

Highway Patrol trooper Jeremie Elliott said Moore was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the crash had not been determined.

Nellis officials said Moore was a senior airman who worked as an environmental systems journeyman. He was assigned to the 757th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron.

A memorial service is set for 3 p.m. Friday at the chapel on the Las Vegas-area air base.
