Jill Scott sings

at House of Blues

Equal parts honey and hellfire, Jill Scott possesses one of those voices that would still sound perfectly inviting if it was delivering a death threat.

The neo-soul siren is a poet, but don't hold that against her: Scott's not nearly as self-indulgent as some of her peers, whose words come freighted with so much faux-literary pretension that you'll be reaching for a Britney Spears disc as a palate cleanser.

Instead, Scott's repertoire is more subtle and refined, elegant, delicate and yet still lethal, like a porcelain bullet.

See her at 9 p.m. at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay, 3950 Las Vegas Blvd. South. Tickets are $42-$65; call 632-7600.
