Taking Back Sunday emotes

To hate on the emo kids is akin to loathing warm, fuzzy, little kittens: They're so innocuous, really, how can they raise anyone's hackles all that much?

Still, they do, and scene favorites Taking Back Sunday are among emo's most polarizing acts. They pack the hard-edged guitar crunch of a metal band, but leaven it with the kind of confessional, heart-on-the-sleeve emoting that headbangers avoid like sobriety.

Love 'em or loathe 'em, if you have a teen daughter, chances are this is what makes her heart go pitter-patter.

See the band at 7 p.m. Thursday at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay, 3950 Las Vegas Blvd. South. Tickets are $26 in advance, $28 day of show; call 632-7600.
