Come for H, stay for the music

H is for Hellgate's sharp and scrappy indie rock is contemplative one minute, cutting the next, powered by wiry, athletic guitars and a frontlady whose nonplused singing signals a woman in control. The band's latest disc, "Come for the Peaks, Stay for the Valleys" is an understated gem, posited on near-math rock intricacy that swells into moments of guitar rock grandeur. Yeah, it's been done before, but not quite like this. See H is for Hellgate at 10 p.m. Thursday at the Beauty Bar, 517 Fremont St. Call 598-1965.
