Late drummer's family gets help

About a year and a half ago, drummer Jason McNelis was thrilled when his band, Vegas rockers Cornerstone, played the main stage at the House of Blues for the first time. On Thursday, Cornerstone returns to the venue for a show to help the wife and son of McNelis, who was critically injured in a car accident and died a few weeks ago.

Local heavy-hitters Otherwise, Kid Deposit Triumph and the Ill Figures have banded together to honor McNelis and assist his family.

Help out by rockin' out at 6 p.m. at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay, 3950 Las Vegas Blvd. South. Tickets are $10; call 632-7600.

Bill Champlin has been part of the band Chicago since 1982, so it's hard to remember he missed the band's first era as a jazz-infused rock band.

Champlin was busy during those days with his own soul-driven San Francisco band, Sons of Champlin. The group is back and plays at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the South Point, 977 Las Vegas Blvd. South. Tickets are $30-$40; call 797-8055.
