WASHINGTON -- Work assignments for Nevada lawmakers in the new Congress rounded into shape this week.
Republican Sen. John Ensign said Thursday he will join the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. It has jurisdiction over emergency management and public safety issues.
Besides his new assignment, Ensign also is on the Finance, Budget, Rules and Commerce committees.
On Wednesday, freshman Democrat Rep. Dina Titus was named to the House Education and Labor Committee, her second assignment. She also will work on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
Last week, Republican Rep. Dean Heller was put on the House Ways and Means Committee, a major panel that by House rules will be his only assignment.
Democrat Rep. Shelley Berkley also sits on Ways and Means. She is seeking a waiver that would allow her to take part on the Foreign Affairs Committee.
