Nevada election saw highest turnout increase in the nation

CARSON CITY - Secretary of State Ross Miller says Nevada distinguished itself nationally in the general election by having the highest percentage increase in voter turnout from the last presidential contest four years ago.

Miller says voter turnout in Nevada rose 4.5 percent this election, while nationally turnout was below 2008.

Miller's remarks came Tuesday as he presented an overview of the Nov. 6 general election before Nevada Supreme Court justices certified the results.

Miller credits Nevada's two-week early voting period and online registration availability for helping to boost the state's turnout.

More than 1 million Nevadans cast ballots, marking a new milestone in the Silver State and setting a record turnout of nearly 81 percent.
