Obama set to open more Nevada offices

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's campaign, which already had the most locations in Nevada, is opening three more offices in the state for a total of 10.

The offices in Henderson, Boulder City and Winnemucca all will be open within a week and a half, as some leases are still being finalized, the campaign said.

"This is a precinct caucus, so organization is key," national campaign manager David Plouffe said of Nevada's upcoming Jan. 19 presidential caucuses during a Wednesday conference call with Nevada news media.

While claiming not to put much stock in polls, Plouffe touted the Illinois senator's rise in a recent Review-Journal poll that put him only 8 percentage points behind Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York. It was the first Nevada poll to show Clinton with a lead not in double digits and the first sign that the presumptive front-runner's seemingly steamrolling Nevada campaign apparatus might not be unbeatable.

Clinton campaign aides have said that they believe her lead is safe here and that the poll doesn't represent a downward trend.

Both candidates are locked in close races in other states that have early presidential contests. This week, they began TV ads in Nevada, becoming the first presidential hopefuls to do so in this election.

Obama's Henderson office will be at 153 W. Lake Mead Parkway. The Boulder City headquarters are to be located at 508 Nevada Way, Suite 3. In Winnemucca, the campaign will be at 508 Winnemucca Blvd., Suite C.

In addition to two Las Vegas offices, Obama has offices in North Las Vegas, Pahrump, Carson City, Reno and Elko. Clinton has opened four offices in the state.
