Obama’s campaign announces visit to Nevada
Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama will campaign in Nevada next week, his campaign announced.
Obama will visit Elko and Las Vegas on Wednesday, having discussions with local voters, according to the campaign.
Further details about the events, such as where and when they would be held and who would be permitted to attend, were not disclosed Friday. The campaign said details would be announced in the coming days.
Obama last visited Nevada a month ago, having a town hall in Reno on Aug. 17. John McCain, the Republican presidential nominee, last visited the state Aug. 9, when he addressed the national convention of the Disabled American Veterans in Las Vegas.
As the Nov. 4 election nears, Nevada, a swing state, will see plenty of campaign action. Top campaigners for both parties are headed to the state in the coming days.
Today, Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin is scheduled to have a rally in Carson City, the first campaign visit to Nevada by the Alaska governor and running mate of John McCain. Doors open at 2 p.m. for her speech at the Pony Express Pavilion in Mills Park in the capital. The event is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
Also today, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, a former Democratic presidential candidate, is stumping for Obama in North Las Vegas. He's scheduled to have a rally at the campaign office at 2115 Civic Center Drive at 2 p.m.
On Monday, Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman, a Democrat who supports McCain, will be in Las Vegas to campaign for the Republican ticket. Lieberman is scheduled to appear at Temple Beth Sholom at 10:45 a.m.
