Officer in deadly shooting identified

The Las Vegas police officer who shot and killed a stalking suspect on May 5 was identified as eight-year veteran Oscar Fulton.

Police said that Javier Escamilla had been stalking his former girlfriend late on May 5 at her home in the 6500 block of Moon Rose Court, near Rainbow Boulevard and Washington Avenue.

Police were called. They chased Escamilla and confronted him after he wrecked a pickup at Alta Drive and Jones Boulevard.

Fulton, 44, arrived at the scene of the wreck, opened the door to the pickup and saw the driver had a gun, police have said.

When Escamilla pointed the gun at Fulton, the officer fired killing the 53-year-old, police said.

Fulton entered the police academy in January 1999.
